My name is Larry Galvan and I have been a woodworker for over 40 years. While I specialize in rustic log benches and mantels, I also make furniture, cabinets and other wooden items. My work is done in mostly solid hardwoods using the traditional craftsmanship you see in fine pieces that are passed from generation to generation. In an effort to be eco-friendly, the majority of the wood I use comes from locally cut down trees that I mill myself.

I was making a custom coat tree for a customer and decided to make 2 right away. This 6 foot tall coat tree is made from solid white oak with 6 custom cast iron hooks and a teak oil finish.
I added a back to this white oak slab bench that had curved to the perfect seat over 20 years of aging. The bench is 68 inches long, 22 inches wide and 41 inches tall and has a teak oil finish, so it can be used indoors or out.
I got the inspiration for this birdhouse while I was spliting firewood - I split a log and the middle of a limb pulled out forming the perfect hole for birds to use as a door. I added a wooden "house" on the back and a perch on the front, and within hours of hanging it, the birds had moved in. I have come across several more such pieces since and made birdhouses from them - each one is totally unique.
This bar was created for a friend who is an arborist. He wanted the bar built out of various different woods, so we used Osage orange, pin oak, black walnut, cherry, and white oak to create the unique striped and checkered effects.
This cherry toychest was custom-made - it is 46 inches long, 20 inches deep and 14 inches tall and features hidden 360 degree locking casters and "Soft Down" closers so little fingers don't get pinched.
This 6 foot porch swing was made of solid cherry using mortise and tenon joints. It now resides in the hills of West Virginia.
Notice the sturdy legs on this truly unique bench! Made from the same cherry tree as the swing above, this bench is over 10 feet long, and we have enjoyed it on our porch for over 15 years.
A couple of examples of the mantles I have made and installed - the natural front edge is what gives my mantels their rustic look.
The details of this solid cedar double adirondack chair with attached table make it a fine addition to any rustic setting, from a lakeside cabin to a wooded retreat.
Taking inspiration from the piece above, a variety of woods makes this a real one-of-a-kind item. In this piece are Osage orange for the table, arms and front legs, white oak for the seats, black walnut for the seat backs, cherry for the front face, and ash for the rear legs.
What child wouldn't love this spirited rocking horse? Made of solid oak with hand-painted details, this is a piece that will be passed on from one generation to another - our grandchildren love theirs!
We were looking for a place for our microwave, several small applicances that are frequently used, and a spice rack, and we came up with this versatile idea that combined all three needs in one cabinet. We also made a similar multi-purpose cabinet for our daughter that combined the spice rack with a wine rack.
These adirondack chairs are crafted from Trex material. Trex is made of recycled plastics, comes in various colors, and is maintenance-free. These chairs are now part of the landscape at a Michigan summer home.
Please note that the items in My Portfolio are not available for sale, but are a sampling of some of the other work I have done.
